Mid Autumn festival & Day of China

Posted in Uncategorized on October 3, 2008 by traffelsb2

Hi … I am sorry but there are so many things to do everyday in Hong Kong that i find only little time for my blog :) – for example sleeping in the Hong Kong Taxis “haha”

Today i am not out because there is a new typhoon warning and it is raining heavily so i found some time to give you a short review about happenings in the last weeks.

First of all there was the mid-autumn-festival. It is more or like the change from summer to fall and a time where everybody in Hong Kong moves towards the beaches here, people have BBQ there, fire their candles and eat Mooncakes. Mooncake is a popular cake which is only produced in Chine around this festival. For most of Europeans the taste is not that good but at least you should have tried it – however the BBQ was amazing.

Also we made it in a big local newspaper here ~~ hot! isn’t it?

On first of October there was a holiday here in China – the National Day. Nothing special about it in Hong Kong – only that holiday here means that everybody rushes into one of the huge shopping malls. I guess everybody does shopping in his leisure time as well but on this day even 5-times more people are on the streets – really crowded!

In the evening we watched the 25 minutes long 4mio. HK$ expensive firework next to the Central skyline. This was pretty amazing! You should watch the last three minutes which are covered on the following video! Have a nice day & enjoy! (at least check the last minute!)

Hong Kong – whats about?

Hi guys! Sorry for being very busy for the last days. There is so much to discover and to do in Hong Kong i found no time to do any blog entries. At the beginning i have to say that i really enjoy my stay here in Hong Kong. It is a place that offers nearly everything. The mixture of the busiest harbour of the world, the amazing night life, the stressful business life and on the other side lots of beaches, mountains and very quiet and relaxing areas. I really love Hong Kong and i am already sad when i think about being back in Austria.

So what has happend in the last few days :) I just want to sum up things for you. Last week we were out for party a lot… most of the days i used to sleep and relaxe… i don’t even want to think about the amount of money we/i have spent in Hong Kong’s night life till now!

On Saturday we had a City trip with the International Student office. We visited many different places in Hong Kong like the Central district, WanChai, and some tourist spots.

On Sunday we had an amazing brunch in one skyscraper in WanChai in the 66 floor. The view was great – just check some photos in my web album! Later on we took the ferry to bring us to one of many beaches in Hong Kong on an Island with BBQ at the evening.

I had no classes on Monday so i went to Macau with the TurboJet with a friend from Germany who had to register his Visa for Hong Kong student. Really cool small city with LOOOOOOOOOOOTs of Casinos. In the evening we were out in Lang Kwei Fong again!

Tuesday was another day off from uni for me but i used this just to relax. I was so destroyed from all the parties the last few days – really out of power…

On wednesday i had my first classes. The university is really cool and modern…i will show you some pics in the following week!

There is lots of group work to do and it seems like classes are more praxis orientated. My final schedul looks like that – pretty much but i thought i have to study a bit more… not to be out partying the whole semester:

  • Information systems for virtual organisations and global work teams
  • Legal, Risk and Security Management for IS
  • Website Design for e-commerce
  • e-Marketing
  • Public Relations
  • Mandarin for non Chinese speakers

At night we went to “SKITZ”, a club in WanChai -> Ladies night = 180 HK$(~15 euro) drink as much as you can ~~ damn dangerous and that every Wednesday…

Result: photos like this one =)

On thursday Ricky a local student brought us (alex, franziska, christopher and me) to the peak. Provides a nice view to the Central district. But we will be there again at night once. In the evening me and Mario went to a Vietnamese restaurant and to the cinema with two HK girls.

Yeah Friday and Saturday was uni for me… and WanChai + Long Kwei Fong “LKF” till the morning at Sat. night =) so today we relaxed at a beach in the middle of nowhere = 10 minutes MTR, 30 minutes minibus, 30 minutes taxi (taxis are cheap as water here) and finally 30 min. walk :) a beach like in the movie surrounded by hills! So now i had time to do this blog entry + wash my clothes! gn8 already 2a.m.

…bye everyone!

Like Frog’s leg? :)

hey…how are you? yesterday we watched the laser show. The skyline of hong kong is really cool. Later on we had typical chinese dinner. I had to try everything and that was a lot :) Starting from chicken kidney over some strange mushrooms it ended with boiled frog’s leg…. it’s ok but i prefer Wiener Schnitzel i suppose.

… bye, i have to take some food or my hangover will kill me =)! Hong Kong is a perfect town for party!

Yeah… hallo! Finally i got internet after waiting for one day. Yesterday i arrived in Hong Kong after 18 hours of sitting in aircrafts and at airports. Thai airways took me from Munich over Bangkok to Hong Kong. I was really lucky because the seats next to me were free so i had a nice bed with 3 pillows.

Hong Kong itself is really amazing. I’am going to tell you more about the city after our INSO welcome City Tour on Saturday. It is really really hot outside so normally you just try to get from one building to the next one as fast as possible because there it is always air conditioned.

The student dorm is really ok. The room size is enough only the shower room could be cleaner. Door locks immediatley after closing…. so it did not last for 1 hour locking out myself for the first time =)

Way to university is about 5 minutes.

Today in the morning i tried joggin – BUT U WON’T BELIEVE. I ran like an old man and my heartbeat was about 180 so i stopped after 25 minutes… it was so hot u could not breathe enough air.

The Chinese are fanatics of electronic stuff. You can load money on nearly every card (cards for public transport, door lock, air conditioner, supermarkets ….) and i could not find out yet if people go to restaurants to play with their phones beside eating or eat beside playing with there phone. They are really addicted!!!

So now i have to go to the university welcome tour….

cya later!

btw @chrissi: omg hello kitty is everywhere – everytime….

Preparations….. 100% – time for take off!
